Carving Wood ref: GLFDA Worlds
Mitch, A great wood for beginning carvers is the northern bass wood.....although is will swell when it is used a lot in the cold "Northern Michigan Waters" it is a great source.....easy to shape. Hope this helps...and best of luck to you!!!

I might make a trip there this year to look around, I dont think I will enter anything, from the pics on the website it looks like some tough compitition. Do they have a area where you can buy decoys or other spearing items there?

Hey all, Fall is in the air.....weather cooling off.....ice before we will all know what has happened to fall.....next Saturday in Monroe....GLFDA World Championship of Fish Decoy Carving.....it will bring an early chill and get the spearfishermen in the correct frame of mind. The best of the best decoys and spearfishermen will be there with winter on their minds. Come and share in the preservation of this dying art!
