Pickerel lake in Newaygo county
Fished the lake recently and got good numbers of small pike.
Wondering if anyone had insight to the walleyes. Is there a population worth targeting in this lake??

Pickeral Lake Walleye
Inland walleye fishing in Newaygo County is a pretty tight lipped affair with actionable information hard to come by.
According to the MI DNRE fish stocking database, Pickeral Lake received the following walleye plants:
2005=16,163
2009=15,900
The bad news is that the length of fish planted were around 1".
The other bad news is that with the number of pike you caught, I would expect that these walleye fry made tasty snacks for the pike.
You may have better luck going through the culvert into Kimbal Lake & fishing the drop off on the submerged island in the middle of the lake in front of the church camp.

My brother & I usually fish Pickeral as part of our Labor Day Bass-A-Thon after we hit Kimball as the traffic on Long/Ryerson Lake where his cottage is gets pounded by wake boarders .

That's too bad - Ryerson has some big bass in it.
Just like tH' frEEK - I don't think I'll attempt to fish that until AFTER Sunday comes & goes.

There's some decent gills in there - but Croton can be good in the winter for blue gill.....
There's a ton of gill lakes around here.

Anyone hit Croton lately? I was out back in late May and the gills were filled with parasites (that ground pepper looking stuff). Cut 3 and released the rest

Don't you owe me a guided trip yet RalF???

I was out last SAT with my best bud , sPuD and we got a few perch & gills...
Kinda slow - but I've always done better in the AM before the yingyangz get it all riled up.
We did a PM trip.
The bluegill looked fine as did the perch....
12-14FOW that day - on the weed edge.
Is that recent 'nuff???
