I'm going with Killin Time out of Manistee on the 5th of June and I know at least one of my foursome has backed out, and it's likely another one will be unable to come as well. That makes it a hefty cost for my friend and I who are still going.

If anyone wants to come along we'd welcome it. I'd just ask that you cover 1/4 of the $550 and we'll take care of the rest (gratuities, etc.). You can PM me or just leave a note here.

Well the black lab that is here for a "home visit" from the shelter has been here for a few hours now. She is 10-11 weeks old and almost 25 lbs. My question is what should I be looking for from her? I have 4 kids from 1-7 yrs old and she has been very good with them. I haven't heard her bark since she got home. I brought her down by the water and she wasn't hesitant by it. She went in a number of times but didn't go in far enough to have to swim. Not sure if I should be expecting her to jump in and swim at this age or not. She has been introduced to our 11 year old female yellow lab mix and there seems to be no problems. We had her off leash in our yard and she stayed pretty close to me and the kids and came when she got too far away but had to be called a couple of times. I am going to try and take her in my drift boat tonight and see how she does. Not planning on any serious fishing on my part, just want to get my son out and see how the dog does. Planning on stopping frequently to let the dog stretch her legs. Any advice or things to look for? Our first two dogs were lab mixes (rescues) and I didn't have or put the time in to train them well for hunting or even being off leash. If we get this dog I want to make sure I do this right so the dog is a good family dog and also a sporting(waterfowl and upland) companion.

I went with a 20 yard wide strip of corn by 1/2 Mile long this will provide the barrier I need to to keep the road poachers in the area out. next year there will be a 10 foot wall of dirt with switch grass and pines to be my blocker dont have time this year to do it so the corn will work just fine . Finished planting last night .

Water temps were similar top to bottom till we edged out to 120, where surface was maybe 5 F warmer. Picked up a 8 lb King on DR with green fly & spin doctor 75 ft down, later a laker on same rod. Also caught a 2 lb coho on 300 copper with Mag blue dolfin and green paddle.

Well my wife has a 7 week old black lab puppy coming over for the weekend on a "home visit" from the local humane society. The lady she knows there says she is 99% sure the dog is purebread. We have 2 older lab mixes- 11 and 12 so it might not be a bad time to get a puppy. I started duck hunting 6 years ago and have a 7 year old son who I hope to get started in a few years. I don't take our other dogs with me but if we end up with this puppy I would definately want to be able to bring him along.

My question is what books would be helpful for me to start training the dog. I have never trained a dog for hunting. I would also be willing to pay to take the dog to a trainer. Does anyone know a trainer within an hour or two of West Branch? Also, what age do you typically start training a dog like this? I live on a small lake so I would have an area for water training but I have never introduced a dog to guns and would want to do whatever I could so the dog wasn't "gun shy". Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey guys I just picked up a bowtech insanity this past week and am currently looking for arrows, the problem is my options are a little limited being that my bow currently draws 84 pounds. I have a 30 inch draw and it seems that most companies dont have an arrow available past 78 pounds 29 inches. Someone suggested the easton fmj dangerous game but I think I would want something a little lighter that would obviously still be above ibo weight but be able to take advantage of a lot of that speed my bow is producing. Yes I know I don't need to shoot that much weight,(I've been hearing the criticism since I bought this thing) I used to shoot with my uncles 100 lb bowtech samson, so 84 pounds is a breeze to pull. I'm just looking for a little constructive info on what to shoot, thanks guys
